Marketing thought leader Mitch Joel on the value of promotional products

karim kanji

Many businesses, small and big, travel to and attend trade shows and conventions.  One of the company's I work for uses trade shows to meet potential clients as well as strengthen relationships with current clients.

One of the questions I always ask is, "How can I create a buzz around my booth?"

One option is promotional items.  Sounds cool, eh?

Hmmm....

Technology is Everywhere

clickflick

In today’s society everywhere you look Technology has an influence in the way we live and do things everyday. From the moment you wake up an electronic alarm awakes you. Power the television for the morning news and listen to the traffic and news updates. The news channel you are watching is probably all decked out with live feeds from cameras and In-studio video displays. The point is that Technology is everywhere and it continually evolves. It truly is an amazing time to be living in this time of new “Technology” advancements in our everyday world.

3D televisions, Crowd sourcing, Smartphones, Ecommerce, and Augmented Reality are mostly new terms associated with Technology today. If your parents read this article they would not recognize or understand most of the terms mentioned. If they do then consider yourself one of the lucky few. Trying to explain to my parents how to text message is like trying to put a square piece into a circle puzzle, it’s just not going to happen. Our parents never had to use email, smartphones or computers. Remember the rotary dial phones and the pencil and paper to write and send messages with a stamp. Maybe those times where much simpler and technology has just complicated the way we do things. Don’t you find that it is very hard to keep of with new technology? Do you think Technology has helped or created more problems for us? It would be interesting to see with certain age demographics especially the older generation of their thoughts on Technology.

How many of you recently watched the Grammy Awards? Did you see the Michael Jackson special “Earth Song” tribute in 3D? Unfortunately if you were viewing it from home you probably missed out on the full effect unless you actually own a pair of 3D glasses. It begs the question: Who actually owns 3D glasses?

The introduction of  3D (Three-Dimensional Field) to television in the recent Grammy’s signifies the emergence of 3D television from your home. Synchronized to the release of “Avatar” and “Alice and Wonderland” both 3D movies have also fueled the general publics hunger for more 3D viewing and programming. In the recent consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas 3D televisions took centre stage of the majority of products on display. All the big players such as Sony, Samsung, Mitsubishi, LG and other manufacturers are set to release 3D televisions this summer 2010. Major broadcasters such as Comcast are looking to launch 3D channels. The first venture into this uncharted land is ESPN. They are looking to broadcast football and basketball games in 3D format. Will consumers fork out the extra money for 3D, that remains to be seen. Comcast and other media outlets will need to invest in stronger networks and change the infrastructure to handle higher bandwidth. Canadians will play second fiddle in a wait and see approach to see how Americans accept the technology.

As I’m sure everyone here on ibizbook.com is aware I am eagerly awaiting the release of Avatar: An IMAX 3D Experience on December 18, 2009.  Tickets were available as early as August of this year, but I didn’t get a chance to purchase any.  I will probably have to wait until a few days after the 18th.

The buzz is that this film will change the way movies are made and consumed.  It took director James Cameron 4 years in production to complete the movie.  He had to have special video cameras specifically manufactured for filming.
