| So I'm a big fan of Google Doodles (Googles logos that celebrate selected events/people). I collect these little pieces of digital art since from waaay back when (I think 1998, yeah 11 internet years ago. In human years thats about 88 years or so . . . ). Friends from foreign lands send me these logos that I might not necessarily see on a everyday basis. So how did all this start? Well the story according to Wikipedia is . . . . During Burning Man Festival of 1998, Larry Page and Sergey Brin designed the first doodle in order to notify users of their absence. Since then, Dennis Hwang was assigned to create Google logos. Hwang's first logo design for Google in honour of Bastille Day, July 14, 2000, at the request of Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and has been designing the specialty logos ever since. He creates about 50 Google logos each year[4]. Other logos have been designed commemorating Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other events such as Piet Mondrian's birthday. His actual position was Google's international webmaster, which made him responsible for all of their international content and kept him quite busy. |
